DWINDLING LEADS NOT A CONCERN (YET) FOR THUNDER

FRISCO, Tex. – The 63-42 lead over Katy became a 63-63 tie. The 31-14 advantage over Alaska dwindled to 43-41 in the fourth quarter.

Pattern? Yep. Problem? Not yet according to Frisco Thunder quarterback Wes Cooper.

The Thunder’s been able to hold on both times after seeing a three-score dwindle. That and players adjusting to the indoor game isn’t a cause for concern for the proven indoor quarterback..

“It’s just that we get a lead and we feel like we can sit on it,’’ said Cooper, whose long touchdown pass to Jason Deml helped the Thunder regain control in a 50-41 victory over Alaska. “We’ll have to focus twice as hard from here on out.”

Many of the Thunder’s players are new to indoor football, where a two-touchdown lead isn’t as safe as in the outdoor game.

“It’s a natural reaction to ease up a little,’’ Cooper said. “A two- or- three touchdown lead may be enough outdoors, but in this game, three touchdowns can be scored in 30 seconds.

Cooper’s thrown for 866 yards and 20 touchdowns with just three interception to lead the Thunder to a 3-0. Frisco hosts the CenTex Barracudas Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Dr Pepper Star Center. Call (972) 731-6968 for ticket information or visit www.friscothunderifl.com
