THUNDER DANCER" COVER SHOT FLATTERING YET OVERWHELMING
FRISCO, Tex. (May 9, 2008) -- FRISCO, Tex. -- It's flattering to be the cover girl for the Frisco Thunder?s 2008
swimsuit calendar but Judy Conkwright sometimes gets embarrassed.
``The idea of lots of people seeing me in a bikini is kind of overwhelming,'' said
Conkwright. ``I wouldn't describe myself as modest, but especially being on the cover
means everybody sees it... I guess I am a little modest.''
The 21-year old Cheer and Tumbling Coach at The Colony Recreation Center made the most of
her first calendar shoot with her cover selection. It was also just her second appearance
in front of a camera -- Conkwright did some work for a cheerleading catalog back in high
school.
The day of the photo shoot was the coldest day in January.
``It was absolutely freezing,'' Conkwright said. ``We were wrapped all in blankets and when
everyone was ready to take a round of shots we threw off the blankets and posed until we
were too cold again.
``It was still a blast,'' Conkwright added. I could be a model any day, I love taking
pictures.''
Conkwright was selected for the month of September, and to this day she's not the biggest
fan of her shot for that month. But when Dance team executive director Debra Swaim pulled
her aside prior to a practice, Conkwright learned she would have a second picture in the
inaugural publication.
``All the pictures were great, but Judy's shot fit right in with what we were trying to
present ... beauty and sophistication, but yet fun and approachable at the same time,''
Swaim said.
Reaction to Conkright's cover varies from her sisters to brother and boyfriend. In fact,
Conkright describes the family reaction bordered on ``nonchalant.''
``They always tell me I'm the most beautiful no matter how many girls there are, they are
incredibly supportive of me,?? Conkright said. ``My two sisters were excited, although I
didn't hear much from my two brothers about it. I once asked my brother for advice on an
outfit and he told me if he got to pick my clothes they would all be XL sweatsuits, so
I'm not sure how much he likes me in a bikini.
``My boyfriend wasn't too sure about the idea of me being in a swimsuit calendar as well,
but he was excited for me when I was picked for the cover,'' Conkright added.
Autographed copies of the calendar are available on the Thunder's web site at
www.friscothunderifl.com/dancers.php . Cost is $10 + $3 shipping and handling.
